Setting the minimum wage without free collective bargaining constitutes an unacceptable rejection of a workers’ right, says SYRIZA
SYRIZA-PS accuses the government of undermining the reinstatement of collective labor agreements.
In his statement he notes that “the formation of the minimum wage without free collective bargaining constitutes an unacceptable rejection of a right of the workers, which was supposed to have been temporarily revoked in the framework of the memorandum arrangements, while “by choosing the definition of the minimum wage by decision of the government, the Minister of Labor, Mr. Kerameos, is undermining from the outset any “dialogue” he claims he wants to start in the future regarding collective negotiations and the reinstatement of collective labor agreements.” He adds that “the government refuses to restore the institutional framework of collective bargaining, as it was before 2012”.
SYRIZA states that “the EU aims for 80% of workers to be covered by collective labor agreements through free negotiations” and that “our country is currently at 24.7%, far below the EU average”. to emphasize that “it is an immediate social necessity to create a framework to support Collective Labor Agreements and free negotiations between social actors and the government must respect it”.
