The intention of the government to bring to the Parliament “on time” a comprehensive regulation on the issue of financing the Spartans was confirmed from the floor of the Parliament by the Minister of the Interior Theodoros Livanios, responding to the objections of Panagiotis Doudonis about non-acceptance of PASOK’s amendment for the suspension of state funding of the given party.

“We in an amendment that we see positive elements are willing to discuss it, in time and I repeat do not try to zero everything. What we can do is to listen, to make a regulation that utilizes both your and our proposals and come to the parliament to be discussed in time”, clarified the minister from the floor, underlining that since he is in development of a judicial investigation, the Ministry of the Interior does not have the possibility not to give money with the current legal framework.

Earlier, there had been a fierce conflict between the president of the Spartans and Panagiotis Doudonis, with Vassilis Stiga attacking both Charilaou Trikoupis and Nikos Androulakis personally: “If anyone is a reformer, it is only PASOK. One like PASOK, one like ELIAS, one like KINAL. This is a format. I challenge Androulakis with this low political stature to come to this temple of the Republic and face me. Let your inadequate president come here”, emphasized Mr. Stigas. Taking the floor, Panagiotis Doudonis called on the government to accept PASOK’s amendment, recalling that his party had tabled the specific provision in September 2023 as well. “1,081,477 euros and 61 minutes. That’s how much the government’s sloppiness cost, ignoring PASOK’s proposal. If you don’t accept it, it can be attributed to either cunning or some superiority complex. I hope you will accept it and that your carelessness will not cost the Greek people more money”, said the PASOK MP, referring to the total amount of state funding received by the Spartans party.

Vassilis Stiga’s attack was severe, characterizing PASOK as a “pest of the nation”, repeating that the state funding money is in the Spartans’ bank accounts: “The 1,000,000 euros is in our account and we manage it properly. Any chartered accountant can come and see it.” “The straw man’s hubris in my face is a title of honor. Title of honor. On the good side, the money that ND gave you,” answered Panagiotis Doudonis in a strong tone.
