Reactions to her parties Opposition has caused the attitude of the prime minister Kyriakou Mitsotakis against the issue of German reparations during the meeting he had on Wednesday at the Maximos Palace with the president of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

SYRIZA: “The issue of German debts is not a simple conflict that will be resolved at some point in the future”

“The self-evident obligation of the prime minister to raise the issue of German reparations to the president of Germany should have excluded anything sketchy and superficial, which is not consistent with the seriousness of the issue”, emphasizes in a statement SYRIZA.

“However, Mr. Mitsotakis did not even express the legal position of our country, but decided to accept the movement of the claim to the calendar” he says, noting that “indicative of the above is that the German president did not even feel the obligation to say a word about subject during his statements”.

“The German reparations, concerning the occupying loan, reparations for the destruction and group executions in a number of martyred cities of our country, as well as for the famine and the theft of cultural treasures, are inalienable. And claiming them is a historical, political and moral duty to those who fought and gave their lives in order to defeat Nazism and fascism”, underlines SYRIZA-PS. He also reminds that “on the initiative of SYRIZA in April 2019, the Parliament with a wide majority approved a resolution for their claim”.

“Furthermore, in 2018, the then Prime Minister Al. Tsipras had directly raised the issue of German debts to the president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, stressing that the differences cannot be swept under the carpet,” he adds.

“The issue of German debts is not a simple dispute to be resolved at some point in the future. When the Greek prime minister, at the level of international relations, is silent in the face of statements that do not respect the claims of our country, then he is tacitly degrading the national claim”, concludes SYRIZA-PS in its statement.

Androulakis: “The issue of German war reparations for Nazi atrocities remains open and pending to this day”

“The issue of German war reparations for the Nazi atrocities committed against our country remains open and pending to this day,” the PASOK-Change Movement president said in a post. Nikos Androulakis.

He added that “it is a living and just historical claim of our country, which the Government must raise and claim at every opportunity of political dialogue with Germany.

We will not let anything be forgotten. There are no statutes of limitations in History.”

KKE: Reports of a formal nature, when not accompanied by practical actions, undermine the historical right of the Greek people

“The reports of a formal nature about German reparations, when they are not accompanied by practical actions to claim them, even receiving the firm answer of the other side that “such a matter does not exist”, have little meaning, while at the same time they undermine this historical right of the Greek people for the atrocities of fascism – Nazism” points out the KKE in its comment “on the visit of the President of Germany & the discussion about German reparations”.
