According to the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet, Ankara was disturbed by the presence of the Cypriot president Nikos Christodoulidis in the USA.

The newspaper reported that there are fears that the US will cooperate with Greece and Cyprus instead of Turkey.

In detail, according to Manolis Kostidis, the article stated: “H Turkey accuses Washington of changing its historically balanced policy on Greek-Turkish issues and the related Cyprus issue in favor of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus in the last five years. Ankara warns that this will have a negative impact on both the island and the region.

» In the assessments made in Ankara it is pointed out that the US relationship with Cyprus should be taken into account in conjunction with the recently increasing cooperation in the field of defense and security with Greece.

“It is also noted that Washington intends to strengthen its strategic cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean with the duo of Greece-Cyprus instead of Turkey.”
