The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport mentioned the critical infrastructures that directly improve the daily life of the citizen, but also the geostrategic position of the country, as well as the upgrading of transports, Christos Staikourasat the 7th Athens Investment Forum (AIF), co-organized by the Technical Chamber of Greece and Veritcal Solutions SA.

“We are called to sort out what needs to be done, the prioritization of the projects and what are the available resources for improving everyday life, creating new jobs, but also the development of the country”, emphasized Mr. Staikouras.

In particular, as the Minister mentioned, we have made leaps and bounds in gradual projects and have achieved the goal of reducing accidents by 50% in the last ten years, while he analyzed the grid of road projects that are in progress and will be delivered in the near future, as well as the airport in Kasteli, which is at a 40% implementation rate. Regarding the railway, he pointed out that the goal is to connect it with the country’s ports, through the projects foreseen by the “3 seas” project, but also to connect the Western Balkans with the Eastern Mediterranean.

As the Minister announced, important steps have been taken, and we have secured funding for projects that will allow us to go out to Europe and reach Ukraine, as he said, while the projects that connect Greece with central Europe are of particular importance, but also the upgrading of the railway. Mr. Staikouras also mentioned the Thessaloniki Metro which will be handed over to citizens at the end of the month and the extension to Kalamaria will be completed by the end of 2025, but also Line 4 of Athens, for which its opening will be finished in 2026.

An important section for Mr. Staikoura is the restoration of natural disasters with anti-flood irrigation projects, and restoration both in central Greece and in the rest of the territory. He also spoke of 700 smaller projects being carried out across Greece that improve the daily life of citizens, projects of the highest social reciprocity, as he characterized them. With regard to transport, the Minister stated that if we do not convince the citizen to use MMM more, we cannot expect results, while he referred to the renewal of the fleet of vehicles in Athens and Thessaloniki, but also to the critical infrastructures to enhance everyday life of the citizens.
