The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Hakan Fidan, made the following post on the X platform after the conclusion of his contacts today, November 8, in Athens:

“During our talks in Greece today, we discussed all aspects of our relations in a frank and constructive approach.

»We have also held consultations in mutual trust on some of the issues on which there are differences of opinion between our countries.

“As part of our goal to transform the Aegean into a sea of peace, we agree to make the positive climate between our countries permanent.

»There are many interrelated issues in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. We will continue to address all issues that can potentially create tension on the basis of international law, mutual respect and good neighborly principles. The fact that we have a mutual will in this direction is in itself a valuable achievement.

»We attach great importance to securing the rights and freedoms of our minority and our expatriates living in Greece and to the protection of our cultural heritage. With this understanding, we met with the members of the Consultative Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.

“We conveyed to our interlocutors our views on the resolution of the Cyprus issue based on the realities on the island.

“I thank my distinguished counterpart Gerapetritis for his kind hospitality and warm welcome.”
