Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on the sidelines of COP29 with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
During the meeting, the improvement of bilateral relations and the positive momentum of strengthening contacts in recent times were discussed.
Energy cooperation between the two countries was also discussed, as Azerbaijan is an important supplier of natural gas to our country.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments. The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction for the start of direct contacts between Azerbaijan and Cyprus and for the participation of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides in COP29, which marks the first visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus to Azerbaijan.
Reference was also made to the prospects and road map for the final achievement of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
On the sidelines of COP29, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also had meetings with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and with the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During the meetings, the strengthening of relations and business cooperation with both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was discussed, as well as the prospects for cooperation on issues of common interest during Greece’s term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in two years 2025-26.
