According to EU statistics, the proportion of 15-29 year olds fell from 18.1% in 2011 to 16.3% in 2021.
An immediate solution to the demographic problem of the member states of the European Union and Greece is requested by the MEP Giorgos Autias with his question to the Commission.
In his question, G. He points out that:
“A recent report by the IMF, as well as individual reports by the member states of the European Union, record that “demographics threaten several countries in Europe, including Greece. The demographic threat also slows down the countries’ economy, causes economic bleeding, requiring additional financial interventions and tests the endurance of states and societies.
According to EU statistics, the proportion of people aged 15-29 has fallen from 18.1% in 2011 to 16.3% in 2021. Furthermore, the proportion of people over 65 is estimated to increase by 2050 by 30%.
The aging of the population not only limits growth, but will also slow down all economic and social activity in the future.” Therefore, concludes the MEP, “the implementation of a single European policy is immediately required”.
Based on these findings, the European Commission is asked:
1. With what pan-European economic and political intervention will you deal with the problem?
2. Will you strengthen the economic initiatives of countries looking for a solution to the issue of low birth rates?
3. Will you promote financial and social support to new couples in the EU Member States to have more children?
