Mitsotaki-Erdogan meeting: What they discussed behind closed doors

by

The meeting of the Greek lasted more than two hours Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, which took place in a very good atmosphere.

Government sources state that apparently both sides have reiterated their firm positions on the issues of Greek-Turkish bilateral relations, without the sharpness and tension that the Turkish side has become accustomed to lately.

The two leaders agreed that an effort will be made to drop the tone of the rhetoric, since in the great problems created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it is in everyone’s interest to have stability in the Southeastern Mediterranean.

The feeling that exists, according to the same sources, is that both sides they talked like allies have to face the challenges of the new security architecture in Europe after the invasion of Ukraine.

They even agreed to cooperate in the creation of humanitarian corridors in Ukraine.

Mitsotakis – Erdogan stressed the economic relations and the positive agenda of the two countries.

It was also agreed that if things develop in the spirit of today’s meeting, the 5th Supreme Cooperation Council of Greece – Turkey will take place in Thessaloniki in the fall.

It was also agreed that the two sides would meet next month in Ankara for the MOE.

Today’s meeting, according to government sources, can be seen as a foundation for a substantial improvement in the climate on both sides.
