Current Question by Zoe Konstantopoulou to the Minister of Justice if Greece intends to create an official body to record femicides
Another Topical Question on the definition of an official body, collection, recording, classification, analysis and publication of statistical data on femicides, tabled by the President of Freedom of Navigation Zoe Konstantopoulou, was discussed in the Parliament.
He invited the Minister of Justice to answer if Greece intends to create an official body to record femicides, as 18 member states of the European Union have already done.
Ms. Konstantopoulou did not receive satisfactory answers from the Deputy Minister of Justice, Mr. Bouga, who came to answer instead of Mr. Floridis and stated that she was shocked that instead of the Minister of Justice coming to answer her Topical Question, he was hosted on a television show and said that he will not criminalize femicides, because women are not something special, ignoring that a few days ago the 15th femicide in Greece, for 2024.
He explained that in femicides, both the motive and the circumstance make the offense idiosyncratic and could prevent the sentence from being reduced for certain reasons. “Is woman something unworthy of protection? Is its existence unworthy of government political intervention?’ “Why this attitude of the government towards the female victims? Why this stubborn refusal to do what has been adopted, even since the Vienna declaration against femicide, on November 26, 2012?”
He reminded that the Current Questions he has submitted to the Prime Minister about the femicides have reached 33 and he has not come to answer even one. “There is a huge responsibility of the Government because your message is that nothing is going on.”
