The prime minister also urged students not to be “glued” to a screen and use their time productively
The message that prices of basic items in the supermarket have stopped rising, at a time when wages will continue to strengthen in the coming years, was sent by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked about this in a teleconference he had today with students of the 2nd Standard High School and the 2nd Standard General Lyceum of Volos, who in the previous days had been given a tour of the Maximos Mansion.
Specifically Kyriakos Mitsotakis who received questions about issuespertaining to public school, the jobs of the future, free time, but also for social issues such as supporting the homeless and caring for stray animals, for the economy and the criteria on the basis of which the members of the government are selected he emphasized that “We have now reached a stage where we see that fortunately prices, especially in the supermarket, have stopped rising, but wages will continue to rise. So, for the next two to three years I think we won’t have big price increases – that’s something we’re already seeing – but we will have more significant wage increases. So next year it will be better than this year and next year it will be better than last year. This is the only way you can deal with such an economic crisis, there is no other, there are no magic solutions.”
For the public finance the prime minister pointed out: “Public finances are not much different from a household budget, we have to spend what we collect from taxes. If we constantly spend more, we have to borrow, and if we keep borrowing, at some point someone may not want to lend to us. So, look at the finances of the state roughly like the finances of a household: they must be in order, they must be homely.”
In question about social issues the prime minister noted that “the state has activated actions to deal with it homelessness but also for the professional rehabilitation of the homeless. “It is an issue that has made me particularly aware and we have such specific programs to help our homeless fellow citizens”, noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis and emphasized that “the issue is to be able to break the vicious circle, mainly to find them a job and convince them that they are not condemned to live on the street, but that they can, with our help, take their lives back into their own hands”.
Regarding the school life Mr. Mitsotakis underlined the importance of the evaluation noting that it has no punitive nature. He stated that “vocational guidance in schools must be based on two pillars, on the one hand, determining the skills of each child and, on the other hand, mapping the developments in the labor market over several years, given the changes often brought about by the development of technology, while he added that now learning continues throughout our lives”. Yes, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that it is good for schools, especially the standards, to offer children opportunities and stimuli for creative activities outside the timetable. At the same time, he underlined the importance of free time for everyone and called on children to make use of their free time without being attached to the screen of a device or an application.
“If I can give you one piece of advice, it’s to use your free time productively, without necessarily being “glued” to a mobile or computer screen. You know we’ve made a big effort to get cell phones out of schools, and I think it’s in the right direction, because students concentrate better when they don’t have the temptation of a cell phone. But you also use your free time, mainly for sports, to go out with your friends, with friends, with conversations, it is not the best use of your own free time to be permanently “stuck” in a mobile application”said Mr. Mitsotakis.
Finally, to a question about the criteria by which chooses ministersKyriakos Mitsotakis told the students that the suitability for a position is the main criterion for selection while efficiency is the question when evaluating government officials. “The main criterion is the right person to be able to do the specific job”said Kyriakos Mitsotakis and added: “I am also quite strict in evaluating my ministers. I think the most important criterion is the effectiveness».
