Thessaloniki: Conference on the use of open data for the benefit of society – Stasis: “We must start thinking with data”

“We have too many things and especially in the age of artificial intelligence, we need a lot of data. Gr. We want the data to be traceable, easy for someone to find and use, respecting the other uses to which it is put and making reference to the creator who invested in preparing it.” noted features.
On her part, Angeliki Balloudirector of Electronic Government at the ministry, said: “we are interested in identifying the data sets that exist and in a suitable form to be exploited.”
Importance of data in exports
The importance of open data for the export sector was pointed out by the president of the Association of Exporters of Northern Greece (SEVE), Simeon Diamantidis. “Through the use of open data, exporting companies can gain valuable insights to understand international markets, optimize their materials and improve their processes”he said and added that “businesses can use the data to do research, development, studies, cutting-edge technologies and improve their services.”
Opportunities for IT students
The president of SETPE mentioned the opportunities that exist for students who want to deal with IT in order to take the data and develop applications. Theofilos Mylonas. Welcoming the participants to the conference, the Deputy Governor of Digital Governance, Nikos Jollaspointed out that “according to the European Data Portal, the total value of open data in Europe is projected to reach 334 billion euros by 2025while this sector will generate almost 2 million new jobs. Undoubtedly, making high-value data available benefits both the economy and society, helping to fight climate change, reduce pollution in cities and improve transport. On the other hand, data is a cornerstone of the EU’s industrial competitiveness.”
Mr. Jollas emphasized that countries are now struggling to unlock high-value data sets for the benefit of all, allowing startups and SMEs to develop new products and innovative solutions. He pledged, after all, that the Region is committed to promoting the use of open data in ways that will enhance social and economic development.
For her part, the Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism, Vicky Hatzivasiliouunderlined that the Region has entered the digital age, takes advantage of the situations and is directed to the digital promotion of the tourist destination.
The contribution of such events and conferences to innovation and the dissemination of open data in the scientific, student and business community was highlighted by the Deputy Mayor of Digital Policy and Electronic Governance of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Kostas Vassilopoulos. “The Municipality of Thessaloniki is a helper in this kind of events and will always be open to the prospect of cooperation for the sharing of the data it possesses and this should be done by all public organizations, all OTAs as they have a lot of data in their possession”, he added.
