As government sources clarified, Greece is still accepting asylum requests and evaluating them
The Government Council for National Security met at the Maximos Palace under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to the relevant announcement by the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Representative Pavlos Marinakis, during the meeting an overview of the latest developments in Syria was made and all the parameters concerning Greece and the wider region were analyzed.
As stated, Greece supports the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and an inclusive future that will ensure all religious minorities.
“The return to democratic normality should mean the end of refugee flows and pave the way for the return of Syrian refugees to their homes. Greece is weighing all developments. It monitors the developments in the region, which are dynamic, and adapts its stance on Immigration/Refugees to the new data, in the context of the decisions of the European Union institutions. The Greek authorities remain alert at all levels”the announcement emphasizes.
According to government sources, Greece is still accepting and evaluating asylum applications.
“At the moment no decisions are made on asylum applications until the situation in Syria is stabilized. So far the refugee flows are reduced” government sources noted.
