Open letter to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikourassent by Harry Doukas. The mayor of Athens requests his intervention, so that the “Hellenic Metro S.A.” to comply with the court decisions, for the creation of safe access corridors for emergency vehicles, in the area of its construction site in Themistokleous.

The letter states the following in detail:

“Dear Minister,

With this letter I wish to bring to your attention the extremely important issue of the unjustified refusal of HELLENIKO METRO S.A. to take the necessary actions to ensure the access of ambulances and fire engines to the pedestrian street of Themistokleous Street”states initially in the letter and continues:

“As you know, this obligation of HELLENIC METRO S.A. now also arises as an obligation to comply with specific court decisions of the Court of First Instance of Athens, which, under different judicial composition and procedural procedure, repeatedly ruled that a safe access corridor for emergency vehicles must be created on the pedestrian street of Themistokleous Street.

I would like to point out that the safety of those traveling to the property construction sites and their residents, especially in terms of accessibility and safety, is a matter of priority for the Municipality of Athens.

As can be seen from the relevant correspondence, the Municipality of Athens has repeatedly pointed out to ELLINIKO METRO S.A., but also to your Ministry, the potential serious risksbut also the obligations of the company, without unfortunately receiving a response to an issue that primarily concerns the safety of our fellow citizens, but also concerns the very important institutional issue of the absolute obligation to respect and comply with the decisions of the Greek courts. The implementation of basic infrastructure, such as its construction Line 4 of the Metrodue to the long schedule of the projects, in any case it cannot and should not come at the expense of the safety of the social environment of the area of execution of the projects”.

And Mr. Doukas concludes: “For these reasons, Mr. Minister, please intervene immediately, so that the companies involved in the construction of the Exarchion Square station take all the necessary actions to comply with what is expressly required by the relevant decisions of the Court of First Instance of Athens.”
