Referring to the Tempe tragedy, he again demanded answers, criticizing the government’s “cover-up” attempts
Severe criticism of the government for the safety and reliability of transport, the president of SYRIZA-PS exercised, Socrates Famous in the framework of the debate in Parliament on the bill for the restructuring of the railway operator.
As he said, the government is not bringing a bill to strengthen railways based on “innovation”, “environmental protection” and “safety”, but only a “vague action plan”. “You have not created a security framework. Only examples of inadequacy and unreliability,” he said characteristically, noting that this is also negative for transport, as they only come to the public with negative examples, “accidents” and “near misses”. He also accused the government of not having a “strategic plan and not including the railway in the priorities of the Development Fund”.
Referred to in the tragedy of Tempesagain demanded answers, lambasting the government’s “cover-up” attempts. “Will the government consent to the judicial review of the responsibilities of government officials?”, he asked, stressing that this will prove whether the government’s “everything in the light” is valid. He also noted that SYRIZA-PS is waiting for the results of the investigations to intervene in parliament.
Regarding today’s bill, he said that it is essentially a cancellation of a previous law that proves the “insufficiency” of the government, merging again OSE-ERGOSE into a new body, while he also referred to the European Commission’s infringement procedure because it does not comply with European Union rail safety legislation.
He also denounced her understaffing of services and the failure to ensure the real independence of the Transport Safety Authorities. He also emphasized that, contrary to the government that is taking “steps backwards” and has abandoned the railway, SYRIZA-PS has submitted a “comprehensive proposal based on the dual security and development”. “Because the development and expansion of the railway is not only a European acquis and an element of the quality of life, but also a development tool”, he underlined.
Continuing, S. Famellos referred to a series of amendments included in the bill which also prove the “insufficiency” of the government, from the “extensions of the arbitrary law after 11 years”, despite the promises of demolitions, to “the subsidization of DEYA’s debts to electricity providers ” and the measures on bank fees, which he says the banks will “celebrate”.
