At the event for the presentation of the National Strategic Protection of Minors from Addiction to Internetat the Athens Conservatory, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will speak today, at 11 am.

The main axes of the plan are three: the strengthening of parental control, the objective certification of age and the dialogue with the platforms. The active involvement of parents is considered a “bet”.

The special page will be launched soon parco.gov.gr (Parental Control), where parents will be able to find useful tips and instructions on how to use apps and exercise parental control.

The basic tool of the plan will be the application Kids Walleta digital wallet that the Ministry of Digital Governance is designing for children and is expected to be ready by spring. It will also work as a parental control tool and verify the user’s real age. According to information, the parent will be able to pre-select from one to 4 hours of daily use of the platform.

Kids Wallet

The creation of Kids Wallet is proposed as a response to the position of major social networking platforms that they cannot easily verify the ages of their users. Through the Kids Wallet, they will be able to obtain the age information and thus promote specific content.

The key to this will be the mobile phone number the child has. Parents should declare to the Civil Registry that the particular phone number belongs to their child and install the application on their children’s mobile phone. The Kids Wallet will be connected to the Civil Registry and thus cross-check and certify the age of the minor.

The aim is to start a dialogue with the platforms at the European level and in this the government will develop specific initiatives.
