Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, through his social media account, spoke about the course of the Greek economy in 2024, but also about the government’s new goals for the new year.

What he said in detail:

“The first post for 2025 is about entrepreneurship. 2024 was a landmark year for Greek business, as according to GEMI data, 64,262 new businesses were established, recording an increase of 11% compared to 2023. This is the highest level in recent years, with an overall increase of 50% in relation to 2020.

It is yet another proof that the Greek economy is on the road to recovery. Every business that ceases to operate – mainly individual or seasonal businesses, for retirement or conversion to a new structure – is replaced by three new ones. In fact, there is a decrease of 11% compared to last year in businesses that stop operating. Sectors such as retail and wholesale trade, catering, tourism and technical professions continue to play a leading role. At the same time, strengthening industry and manufacturing, whose contribution was also significant in 2024, remains a strategic goal of the government.

This course is not accidental. It is the result of everyone’s effort: the government that builds a stable and friendly environment for investment, and of course Greek entrepreneurs who continue to innovate and move forward.

2025 begins with optimism and momentum. Our commitment to further improve the business and investment environment, further strengthening the infrastructure, further reducing bureaucracy and ensuring that every new idea will find the right ground to grow. I hope, therefore, that 2025 will be an equally successful year”
