Lately, the incidents of malfunctioning of Attica’s fixed orbit means have increased alarmingly. Another occurred on Saturday
For “another incident today in the METRO”, SYRIZA speaks, appealing “for the government to support the means of fixed orbit”.
In detail in his announcement he states:
“Recently, the incidents of malfunctioning of the means of fixed orbit in Attica have increased alarmingly. Another one occurred on Saturday morning (4/1) on Line 3 of the Metro, at the Monastiraki station, where the train remained stationary for several minutes and was finally evacuated, resulting in severe overcrowding on the boarding and disembarking platforms.
We remind you that only on the days of the holidays, in addition to the above incident, the following have also happened:
On December 30, 2024, a Line 1 train of the Athens metro was emitting smoke at the Moschatos station.
On January 1, 2025, all train doors on Line 1 of the metro on the route between Ano Patisia – Perissos stations were opened in motion.
On 3 January 2025 another train was withdrawn from Line 1 as one of its doors did not close securely.
All these malfunctions, some of which were extremely dangerous for passengers, are indicative of the government’s indifference to the means of transport and public transport. The Mitsotakis government and the competent Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport are blatantly ignoring the complaints of the industry unions, who talk about obsolete rolling stock, lack of staff and spare parts.
In all of this, the malfunctions of the Thessaloniki Metro, which was inaugurated with drumbeats and celebrations by Mr. Mitsotakis, last October. A few days later, passengers were forced to walk through tunnels and exit through a manhole cover due to a train breakdown (14/12).
The government’s tactics are intensifying the climate of concern and driving public transport into obsolescence, at a time when traffic problems are intensifying daily. The immediate strengthening of public transport with the necessary personnel and logistical infrastructure should be a first priority. However, as everything shows, the neoliberal ideologies of Mr. Mitsotakis are leading in the opposite direction”.
