“THE Kostas Simitis he was one of the most important personalities of the Post-colonial period, leaving a great political legacy and making a strong Greece a reality in Europe”, underlines the president of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis in his condolence statement on the death of the former prime minister and former president of PASOK.

He notes that “the former President of PASOK was a deep visionary and Europeanist. He connected his prime ministership with leading national successes: the country’s inclusion in the hard core of the euro and the inclusion of Cyprus in the EU. with the Cyprus issue unresolved.

But also with far-reaching infrastructure projects, which radically changed the image of our country, greatly improved the daily life of citizens and strengthened the competitiveness of the economy”. He emphasizes that “Kostas Simitis and the work of his governments sealed one of the most creative periods in the country” and that “with a plan, methodical and deeply progressive vision towards all kinds of maintenance, as prime minister he opened new horizons in Greek society in a period of stormy changes in Europe and the world”.

He underlines that Kostas Simitis “worked for the reform and modernization of the Greek economy, but first and foremost to implement the social convergence with the European reality”. “He was characterized by moderate, realistic political discourse and uncompromising, groundbreaking political action. He fought against the junta with his comrades in the Democratic Defense and then in the PAK,” he adds.

“We say goodbye to him with deep respect and gratitude for the pioneering paths he opened for our homeland and the Greek people,” concludes Mr. Androulakis.

It is recalled that, earlier, the president of PASOK – Movement for Change had sent his condolences to the wife of the deceased former prime minister, Dafni Simitis.
