The Turkish foreign minister in separate statements has threatened a military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria unless they accept Ankara’s terms
The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, during his visit to the Occupied Cyprus where he met with the president of the pseudo-state Ersin Tatar, reiterated the Turkish positions for two states in Cyprus.
In particular, as reported by the SKAI correspondent from Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, the Turkish Foreign Minister said “the only solution is the two states. This is the reality. A solution cannot be imposed from the past. The island must progress with two states” and he added “with two states the island will develop. Stability, borders, etc.’
At the same time, he argued that “the 50-year isolation of the Turkish Cypriots is a crime against humanity.”
“There are no alternatives, only two states. There is no chance and no model where the Turkish Cypriots will be a minority. It happened in Sudan, East Timor. Why shouldn’t it happen here? I hope that the positive political climate between Greece and Turkey will bring a good climate to the island,” he said.
“Let Greece, Turkey, TRNC and Greek Cypriots come together and build a climate of peace and stability in the Aegean and An. Mediterranean. What we propose is to recognize the reality on the island. Nothing will change from today, the borders will remain the same. People themselves. We will pave the way for development and prosperity” asserted Hakan Fidan.
For his part, Ersin Tatar stated that “in mid-March, an informal extended meeting in Switzerland with G.G. of the UN in which the two foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey, the two sides of Cyprus and Great Britain will participate at a lower level. Details to be determined. We will talk about the future of the island. How will the relations develop and we will talk practically”.
Fidan threatened a military operation in Syria
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has threatened a military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria unless they accept Ankara’s terms.
Hakan Fidan said Turkey “will do whatever is necessary” if the People’s Protection Units, YPG, do not meet Ankara’s demands.
“We will do the right thing. And this is a military operation. Damascus is talking to them, it said it once and it will tell them again,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister, referring to the Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
“This scumbag needs to be stopped in the area. For us it is a threat. It is a threat to Syria as it is to Iraq. If you don’t want a military operation by us or by Syria, then the terms are clear,” he said.
