Donald Trump’s “transatlantic homeland” may not look much like Tayyip Erdogan’s “blue homeland”, however…

After the revisionist Turkey and Russia, the “baton” was also taken by Donald Trump before even assuming his duties. His vision for the “new United States of America” includes the annexation of Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal. OR “transatlantic homeland” may not look much like her “blue homeland” of Tayyip Erdoganhowever the Turkish leader listening to the extravagant plans of his counterpart can only look forward to a frequent and close contact with the American president.
At a time when Turkey’s maximalist demands towards Greece still exist in the form of a “package” solution that will also include the issues of the Muslim minority in Thrace, the neighbors with the way they behave in the Middle East hope to impose a new order of things. Will he have Donald Trump on his side? It is not certain, no matter how flattering words are heard from both sides. By creating parallel crises, Tayyip Erdoğan aims to appear as the “defunct god” in their de-escalation. If Trump considers that he does not have much to gain from the Middle East, it is not unlikely that he will find other ways to advance solutions. Always given that Israel will not come out unprofitable.
Within this environment, the relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv are at “razor’s edge”. Simply put, for Israel, Turkey is the new Iran. And when interests between allies and enemies collide and become entangled the solution is not easy to find. Trump will have to cut the Gordian knot and find ways to compromise to keep everyone happy. A pivotal and indicative point for US-Turkey relations is the issue of F-35 and how the new planet lord will handle this particular issue.
For the Greek side, the interest is very high. The information about attempts to limit the Cypriot EEZ by Turkey has once again sparked the debate for the next day in the relations between the two countries. Will Donald Trump really give enough “courage” to the Turkish president to proceed with new atrocities? This is the crucial question.
From yesterday’s tripartite match in Cairo with Egypt and Cyprus o Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a clear message: “Syria’s path to tomorrow passes through the rules of International Law. Rules which our three countries have repeatedly demonstrated that they respect. After all, Greece and Cyprus have signed EEZ delimitation agreements with our friend Egypt, which are based completely – I repeat completely – on the International Law of the Sea”. Efforts to put a brake on revisionism in the region will continue, as everything shows that Tayyip Erdogan is looking for ways to indirectly legitimize his country’s military presence in northern Syria.
