From stage to life and back to the stage. Dona Déa Lúcia, who became famous to be played in the theater by her son, Paulo Gustavo, will now return the tribute.
Déa announced on social networks the show “My Son is a musical”, created in partnership with her daughter, Juliana Amaral.
“My heart is jumping through my mouth! I can tell you that Juju and I will make one of my son’s biggest dreams: a Brazilian Broadway musical show,” wrote the Cauldron stage assistant.
According to her, the show is scheduled to debut in May 2026. The date marks five years of the death of Paulo Gustavo and 20 years of the debut of “My Mother is a play”.
“I will be able to return everything he made me telling our story together, his story as an artist and as a person,” he wrote.
Created by Paulo Gustavo in 2006, “My Mother is a play” was an audience success and became a movie in 2013. The film unfolded in a trilogy and the play remained on tour for over a decade.
Paulo Gustavo died in 2021 at the age of 42 after a long battle against Covid-19. He left his mother, sister, husband and two children.
Still in the publication, Déa recalled the show they starred in together, “son of the mother.” “We stopped the tour to receive my grandchildren Romeo and Gael and thought we were going back the following year. Unfortunately, that’s not how it happened,” he wrote.
“But, as Paulo Gustavo himself said, even in pain, we need to resist smiling, if possible laughing. Thank God, I am still able to smile and still have a lot of history to tell from the family: when he was a boy and imitated me, the young rebel who almost put me crazy and the artist who conquered Brazil and filled with pride!”
“I can’t wait to open the curtain and bring – at least in the magical time that lasts a musical – my son’s life back,” Dona Déa closed.
