The president of SYRIZA-PS, Sokratis Famellos, met today with the president of the National Bank, Gikas Hardouvelis, as part of the initiatives undertaken by the party for the banking sector.

“Today we concluded our meetings, with the discussion with the Management of the National Bank. The problem is clear: The high profitability of the banks does not correspond to the needs of society and the economy, while they should contribute with their developmental role and obviously with their sustainability, so that both the economy and society are sustainable.” underlined S. Hungry after the meeting.

“Especially in the National Bank, where the State has a high percentage of shares, the State’s percentage should be utilized and strengthened so that it has a strategic role in the Bank’s management as well. That is, the National Bank should contribute, so that we have a smaller interest rate gap, lower commissions and support for society and the economy”, he noted, stressing that “under the responsibility of Mr. Mitsotakis, the National Bank is not contributing to better competition and greater support for the economy and society.” “And this is at the same time an economic and social problem, but also a political problem”, he added.

“SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance will have integrated proposals so that we have a sustainable banking sector, but at the same time we have a sustainable economy and a sustainable society. Why Mr. Mitsotakis neither wants nor can”, concluded S. Famous.

The meeting was also attended by the managing director of the National Bank, Pavlos Mylonas, the parliamentary representative of the KO of SYRIZA-PS, Nikos Pappas, who has been charged by the Political Secretariat with the sector of Economy and Development, and the head of the Economy and Development sector of the KO, Haris Mamoulakis.
