Letter to EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaya Callas, “With regard to persecutions against lawfully elected Kurdish mayors by the Turkish regime“, Sign 33 MEPs” on the initiative “of PASOK MEP Nikos Papandreou.
The 33 MEPs, who “subscribe to the letter of Nikos Papandreou”, as stated in the announcement, call for “the issue immediately to the Turkish government and to make it clear that Ankara is accountable to the Union and for such actions”.
“We believe that the European Union, as a leading force on the support of democratic values, has a vital role to play, facing this ongoing crisis and ensuring that Turkey remains accountable for its actions,” they say in the letter, among other things. MEPs add them: “We stand in solidarity with the Kurdish mayors and citizens of Aristiz and other municipalities, who are influenced and encouraged the EU to act to defend democracy and human rights.”
