Michalis Katrinis for government measures: Too little, too late

For the subsidy of 0.22 cents per liter of gasoline with a maximum of 180 liters, Mr. Katrinis notes that “it means 39 euros per quarter, ie 13 euros per month for the citizen while from the Easter allowance of 200 euros, which is supposed to help the financially weak in the face of the tide of exclusion, excluding the long-term unemployed and those who have lost their unemployment benefit and are without any income coverage.

“With inflation galloping and heading for double digits, electricity has risen 71%, gasoline has risen 31%, diesel 44%, heating oil 64% and natural gas has skyrocketed “I leave it to everyone to decide whether the measures announced are effective and how much” stressed the head of the Central Committee of the Movement for Change.

He pointed out that the accuracy has already led to the loss of almost 1.5 salary per year, for employees who are paid the minimum wage of 663 euros, but also to the findings of the latest research of the Institute of Small Business of GSEVEE, according to which the financial Weak citizens can survive only the 19 days of the month.

Mr. Katrinis stressed that accuracy and price increases have existed for months and are not only due to the war in Ukraine, as the government claims.

Finally, Mr. Katrinis referred to the proposals of the Movement for Change, which include:

  • Ceiling in the power adjustment clause.
  • Taxation of super profits of power generators
  • Reduction of VAT on basic foodstuffs
  • Reduction of the Excise Tax on fuel.
  • Increase of the minimum wage to 751 euros with a simultaneous reduction of insurance contributions by 2% for 2022
  • A new EKAS for 350,000 low-income retirees
