“Shameful for the country and the Republic”, the president of SYRIZA-PS Sokratis Famellos described the “Mitsotakis amendment which was passed by the government majority and has no purpose to protect the monument of the Unknown Soldier”.
According to the president of SYRIZA, “Mr. Mitsotakis was disturbed by the honest struggle of Mr. Routsi, who wanted to find the truth about the death of his child, and he took revenge on society by banning demonstrations and gatherings outside the Parliament.”
Generalizing his criticism, Mr. Famellos argued: “Today’s decision is offensive to the Republic, but Mr. Mitsotakis wants to hide something else. That the Greek society is suffering from the extreme profiteering, for which he and his government are responsible, but also shaken by the corruption revelations about the scandals of his government. Like the OPEKEPE scandal, where today we read that an executive of New Democracy allegedly received grants of 2.5 million euros and eight cars, including a luxury one”.
In closing, he underlined: “This Greece does not deserve us. We do not deserve to be a Greece, in which the European Prosecutor’s Office refers to the OPEKEPE scandal – from what we read today – as a criminal organization. We need a progressive Greece, which Mr. Mitsotakis obviously cannot guarantee. That is why this government must leave as soon as possible and we must have a progressive government.”
