The 8th New Philadelphia Elementary School, which will be made to modernize the building infrastructure, was visited by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as part of the Marietta Giannakou program.

Accompanied by the Minister of Education, Religions and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Mayor of New Philadelphia – Nea Chalkidona Yiannis Tobouloglou, he had the opportunity to be informed by the School Principal Sofia Apostoliou Sports in the school event hall.

As part of the visit, Kyriakos Mitsotakis talked to teachers and students about their daily lives at school and was informed about the modern technological equipment that now has the school, with the interactive boards in the classrooms of the E and 5th grade, resulting in The upgrading of school experience and assist the work of teachers. The program ‘Marietta Giannakou ‘, budget of 350 million euroswill cover, in the first phase, 645 schools in 249 municipalities.

During his visit to school, the Prime Minister said:

“With great pleasure, Mr. Mayor, I visit today the 8th New Philadelphia Elementary School, an excellent school, with excellent teachers, with significant technological infrastructure, interactive boards in E and F Elementary, with robotics workshops. However, a school built in 1980 and needs significant renovation interventions in its building infrastructure. And that is exactly the core of the “Marietta Giannakou” program, which I had the opportunity to announce six months ago.

We are now ready and very soon there will be announcements about those schools where significant interventions will be made to improve infrastructure, from the backyards to the toilets, interventions related to insulation of schools. Always in collaboration with the Local Government, which has the material responsibility of school maintenance, but we recognize that it has no financial ability to make such interventions.

That is why we have initially launched a program of 350 million euros. In these 350 million euros, let me remind you that the 100 million donation from the Hellenic Banks Union are included.

The program will start running immediately and our goal is to hand over the first schools next September. And my intention is to find myself here again in the sanctification so that we can see -now see it before, to be able to see the aftermath.

Because education is not only, as I said, our teachers and technological equipment. It is time to make a major intervention in our school’s building stock, starting with older schools, and continuing to implement this program, which bears the name of an emblematic politician who is so identified with public education reform. .

So let me tell the Mrs Director that we will be here again in September. The program will be largely implemented by the “building infrastructure” and obviously, once we set binding timetables, we are also obliged to adhere to them. “

Mitsotakis

For his part, Minister of Education, Religions and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis noted:

“We are with the Prime Minister at the 8th Elementary School of New Philadelphia. The “Marietta Giannakou” program, which the prime minister announced at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition, is being launched. It started with 250 million euros, have already been added but 100 million euros and we are now able to talk about those school units that are prioritized. It will be over 600 school units with which we start in the first phase of the program this year, and of course this will cover more than 80% of the municipalities.

It is a very important first step. The interventions will be too many, from the backyards to the classrooms, to the school infrastructure itself. It is a step that comes to add to the digital infrastructure, which we put in all schools. “
