“The support of the capital’s transport is a central government’s central bet,” the prime minister from the OSY train station said at Rentis
The Road Transport Train Station (OSY) to Agios Ioannis Rentis, where new electric motors are housed buses and gas buses, the prime minister visited this morning Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikoura and the deputy minister Vassilis Economouinformed by OSY CEO Stefanos Agiasoglou for the 100 new 9 -meter -long Midi electric buses, which joined the bus lines of OSY and added to 278 new anti -pollution technology buses already in Attica.
As bus routes continue, the fleet serving Attica will have been reinforced by 405 vehicles by the end of February, upgrading the quality of services to the passenger public and facilitating traffic on the capital’s streets as part of the target for Acquisition of a total of 950 new buses within 2025.
At the same time, a new international competition has been announced for the acquisition of another 125 125 -meter -long electric buses for Attica public transport, with a completion horizon in the summer of 2026 and through the utilization of European resources.
During the visit, the prime minister had the opportunity to be informed about the technologically advanced applications of new buses, such as the driver’s alcoholometer. Now every driver will undergo alcohol and only if the test is negative will the bus start.
Concluding the visit, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said:
“The support of the capital’s public transport is a central government’s central bet and I am glad to be certified today that this complex design is implemented exactly as we have planned it.
I had the opportunity, today, to oversee new electric buses and gas buses, which are part of the buses that serve the wider needs of the basin.
Our goal – and we will succeed – is to have 900 new buses by mid -2025but of course it is not enough to replace older buses with newer -friendly, accessible to our fellow citizens with disabilities, the very important bet we need to gain is to increase the frequency of routes so that citizens can be served. Better and that’s why we need, not only more buses, but more drivers.
The ministry will soon have the opportunity to present our overall planning to upgrade public transport to the capital, not only in terms of buses, but also the interventions we want to do in the subway, how to replace old, old, In largely outdated trains with new ones and how – and there we make an effort – to increase the frequency of routes. It is not meant to have a 21st century capital not to have a modern public transport system.
We know that for many years – and as a result of the crisis – no substantive investments have been made, especially on our buses. So we run at high speed to cover the lost time, always having in mind the best service of the citizens, whom we want to turn towards public transport, utilizing new technologies, such as Tap-and-Ride, the which with joy I see that we have already embraced it, especially our younger fellow citizens.
So you will wait a while to see the overall presentation of the ministry in the coming days to see the planning of the government throughout. “
For his part, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras said: “The renewal of the bus fleet, for the first time after 15 years, is moving forward, based on our commitments. These days there are an additional 100 meters on the streets of Athens, electric buses, all with a card payable, and 27 meters of natural gas will be added in the coming days, uploading the total number of new buses circulating on the streets of Attica. at 405.
The target remains for a total number of 950 new buses this year, and a new competition has come out for 125 new buses in 2026. All this improves the quality of the services provided and the accessibility of transport. “
