The Minister of Immigration stressed that there is room for further strengthening of cooperation, with the aim of more effective border protection
The current situation of Greece in the migration was presented by Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, to Frontex Executive Director Hans Leis.
Nikos Panagiotopoulos placed particular emphasis on the migratory flows that exert pressure on the external border of both the country and the European Union.
Minister expressed his satisfaction with high level of cooperation Between the Greek authorities and the Frontex, while stressing that there is room for further strengthening it, with the aim of even more effective protection of border.
For his part, Mr. Leitens described cooperation with Greece as Standard of optimal practice at European level on the management and protection of EU external borders. At the same time, he informed the Minister of the continued assessment of the needs of enhancing Frontex staff, with the aim of more effectively supporting Member States in the Surveillance of the Border, to exchanging information and Returns of third -country nationals.
The two sides have agreed to further strengthen the cooperation between Greece and Frontex, emphasizing the effective fight against the networks of traffickers’ criminals and the protection of human life on both the marine and the land borders.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of Migration Policy, Mr. Manos Logothetis.
