Nikos Papaefstathiou submitted his resignation from EKAB in the morning after many years at the reins of the body.
Mr Papaefstathiou’s long experience was judged by the government’s high levels that it should be used at the Ministry of Civil Protection in view of the summer, so special actions will be required to protect the country from the fires.

Who is Nikos Papaefstathiou
Nikos Papaefstathiou was born in 1969 in Athens. He is a Diploma Engineer, a graduate of the Department of Rural-Division of the National Technical University of Athens and holds a Masters Degree in the “Geoinformatics-GIS” of the NTUA.
Until 2004, he worked in technical companies and technical offices, collaborated with a number of bodies and services, including ministries and municipalities, and through the South Aegean Region, he staffed the Technical Service and Civil Protection Office of the Municipality of Paros for two years. During the period 1999-2003, he was General Manager of the Municipal Water Company and Sewerage of Paros, which he created from the outset.
In 2004 he was appointed Special Adviser to the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity and a spokesman for the Ministry to inter -ministerial groups and committees (2004–2010) with objects, inter alia, management of emergency, emergency management and crises in the field of health. In 2004 to 2006 he took over the position of Vice-President at EKAB (Government Gazette 279/NPD/17-11-04, 216/NPD/1-9-2005) and from 2006 to 2010 he was president of the same body (Government Gazette 166/NPD/15-6-06, 365/17-8-8-07, 365/HOD/26-8-09).
From 2011 to 2014 he was General Manager of the Filoktis Rehabilitation Center, one of the largest rehabilitation – recovery centers in Southwest Europe.
Nikos Papaefstathiou re-assumed the president of EKAB in December 2014 (Government Gazette 846/YOD/31-12-2014), while in August 2015 he was appointed Commander of the National Health Center (EKEY) of the Ministry of Health (Government Gazette 600/20). Since March 2016, a General Coordinator had been appointed with increased responsibilities on the design and management of the health needs of the refugees, as well as a national representative in the HSC of the EU. (2016) and NATO (2017). From 2019 until today he resigned, he was commander of EKAB.
He has handled all cases of emergency situations and emergencies of the periods that holds the above positions of responsibility and has been distinguished 3 times with a euphoric reference to his operational action in major mass disaster events (Saminos shipwreck, Helios Air Traffic Calm and District Crossing).
