by

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas, emphasized the arrangements for the support and strengthening of the local self-government, during the debate in the plenary session of the Parliament, of the bill for the National Strategic Plan for the Fight against Corruption.

Mr. Petsas spoke about “important initiatives of the government, which is taking steps forward because it does not want to remain inactive” as he said, while he focused on the issue of pets and the financial support of the stray animal sterilization program, with the amount of 5 million euros in the municipalities.

He also spoke about necessary amendments “Argos” programin order to fund the municipalities that are under the responsibility of stray animals to proceed with the sterilization program.

We have committed and issued an amendment to the “Argos” program, so that with the funding, amounting to five million euros, the sterilization program for the animals which are under the responsibility of the municipalities can proceed. A large animal sterilization program worth five million euros.

“Never before has there been so much funding for such a large and important program for neutering animals”, Mr. Petsas stated characteristically and continued:

“Since October 2021, we have the” Argos “program of 40 million euros, through which we implement various actions, from equipment and operating costs, to issues related to the construction of shelters. We have issued a joint ministerial decision that provides for the creation of a register of homeless people and follows the joint ministerial decision with the Ministry of Finance, for the next expenses, which will be paid each year to the municipalities in order to complete their mission. We are taking steps forward because we are not in favor of inaction. And these steps will be accelerated in the next period, with the submission for approval of the plans of the municipalities. No one can answer today how many homeless people Greece has. “And if we do not know this, we can not fix the problems where they exist.”

“After the hearing of the bodies, the discussion with the parties and the voting of the bill for pets, we proceeded immediately to the implementation of specific actions. We were not trapped in inactivity. We have taken steps to make the pet bill flesh and blood, giving resources to the local government to accomplish this goal. “We need the support of everyone to express the voice of those who can not speak – and these are the pets”, added Mr. Petsas.

Mr. Petsas also emphasized the national pension of expatriates, stressing that “the commitment of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself is being implemented towards a fair request of the expatriates of Albania and the former Soviet Union”.
