“We would recommend to the government spokesman before he is raised on the issue of real earnings so as not to be exposed, to read the recent table released by Eurostat with European GDP GDPs for 2024, adapted to equivalent market units,” commented Press.

“Our country is also ranked for 2024 in the penultimate position before Bulgaria.

This index takes into account income (GDP per capita) but at the same time the cost of living. It is measured in units per cent, where 100 is the average to the European Union.

The per capita gross domestic product in purchasing power units stood at 70% of the EU average in 2024 from 93 points in 2008.

Bulgaria, although last in the ranking of 66% of the average, has significantly increased its purchasing power since 2008, which has been 43% of the average.

With the policy pursued by the New Democracy government by undermining collective agreements, we will soon be the last in the purchasing power, ”concludes Mr Tsoukalas.
