Specifically, on Monday, April 14, the UNESCO Executive Council unanimously adopted a decision proposing to proclaim 9 February as “World Language Day“, And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. welcomes this decision.

The unanimous adoption of the decision on the “World Day of the Greek Language”, which has been convened by 87 Member States of the Organization, is the crown of timeless efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the permanent delegation of Greece at UNESCO, with the scientific support of the Greek Professor. He points out in his announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. and adds:

The decision of the Executive Council recognizes the universality and global contribution of the Greek language to the cultural heritage of mankind. The decision emphasizes, among other things, the unbroken continuity of 40 centuries of oral tradition and 35 centuries of written tradition of the Greek language, its effect on all other European languages, and the fact that it is still an endless source of international scientific terminology.” It should be noted that the official proclamation of 9 February as “World Day of the Greek Language” will take place at the UNESCO General Conference in November 2025.
