Meeting to strengthen cooperation in the areas of social cohesion, support for vulnerable population groups and the promotion of social integration, today was the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Greece.

Particular emphasis was placed on the decisive role of international enterprises in local communities, with reference to Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of Chinese businesses active in the port of Piraeus, such as Cosco Shipping.

Domna Michaelidou emphasized the importance of public and private partnerships in tackling critical social challenges such as the lack of housing, stating: “Corporate social responsibility is a fundamental pillar in our national strategy for social cohesion. Even more such targeted initiatives are needed, which will be complementary to the state’s actions, strengthening social protection and facilitating our homeless fellow citizens. Public and private cooperation can and should be a driving force for a society without exclusion. “

These actions include:

– Creating temporary hospitality structures for homeless,

– Providing basic assistance such as feeding and essentials,

– Support of mobile units of health and psychosocial intervention,

– Cooperation with local bodies for social reintegration.

During the meeting, the importance of creating professional opportunities for young people from vulnerable social groups was also discussed. Both sides recognized the value of connecting vocational training to the needs of the labor market, as well as the promotion without exclusion of employment through synergies.

On the part of the Chinese ambassador, Fang Qiu, he confirmed the commitment of the Chinese government and its businesses to maintain and further enhance their social contribution to Greece, stating: “Our cooperation with the Greek State extends beyond the economic sector – extending to society.”
