They discussed the government’s initiative to legislate the automatic specialty and specialty recognition acquired in America
The prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed Monday, by live and through teleconference, with Greek doctors working in USA and their colleagues in Greece on the government’s initiative to legislate the Automatic Specialty Recognition and specialization acquired in America, a measure that paves the way for them to be able to provide their services in Greece seamlessly.
Based on the arrangement promoted by the Ministry of Health, doctors who have acquired US specialty, certified by the competent US body, will be able to recognize their specialty automatically in Greece, submitting a simple application to the Panhellenic Medical Association. In terms of expertise, the recognition will be automatically recognized by the certificate, as long as there is official specialization in Greece.
“We made a decision with the Minister and the Deputy Minister to cut Gordian bond and bring a provision that automatically recognizes specialty and specialization to those who are certified in the United States by the respective bodies, so that we can solve this bureaucratic problem, which I understand. And of course, on the grounds that this provision may also help the repatriation of some Greeks in the United States, they are thinking of returning and possibly preventing this procedural and bureaucratic difficulty of recognizing the studies they have done, “the prime minister said.
The relevant ministerial decision to recognize medical status is expected to be signed in the coming days and the legislation on the specialization part is expected to be submitted to Parliament within the week.
“With these two moves, the legislatives, we will have covered the whole problem we received. The basic idea is self -evident: having such valid US titles does not raise a real question if you are qualified, “the health minister said Adonis Georgiadisadding that the settings promoted are a product of a number of months.
“Anyone who has been trained and worked in the US is recognized by everyone for high education and vocational training, so with this we go on this regulation as well. Our country will be one of the first to proceed with automatic recognition, “the Deputy Minister of Health explained. Marios Themistocles.
The doctors who participated in the discussion expressed their satisfaction with the government’s rapid response to their proposals and emphasized the importance of automatic recognition to facilitate any scientist who wants to repatriate, work with his Greek colleagues or offer academics.
“It is a very right decision, we are very pleased to have it, we are grateful and, as you have seen, there are many Greeks who are interested in returning and offering their services to remote areas,” said Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics and Endocrinology, George Chrousos.
“We believe that with this decision you will very much upgrade the scientific work of our community with the support of remarkable colleagues both abroad and from the interior,” said Professor of Pediatrics – Pediatric Endocrinology at the EKPA, President of the Hellenic Society of Children and Adolescents. Evangelia Harmandari.
“There are too many Greek doctors of exceptional level and with very important positions of responsibility in the US, both at the level of administration and at the level of research. For all of us, returning home has been a pious for years, and with this new initiative, things are easier, ”said Associate Professor of Oncology at the University of Wisconsin, Christos Kyriakopoulos.
“It’s a historic moment and I think not only we but also the next doctors coming to America will benefit greatly by this decision,” assessed Associate Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology at Georgitun University, Jenny Gourmetadding that he is now being resolved “one of the big obstacles” that plagued Greek doctors in the US.
“It is a great satisfaction for us that we are solving this issue,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in the discussion. “I hope this is the starting point for more than you can do more things in Greece.”
‘An incredibly successful example’ for Brain Gain
THE Damianos Kokkinidisfrom the Medical School of the University of Yale, highlighted the utility of the new regulation as a whole for the repatriation of Greeks abroad and stressed that it can be extended to other scientific areas.
“It is an incredibly successful example of how a small arrangement or a small motivation, from which no one will lose, can really help the brain gain. Perhaps this arrangement can later be applied as an example in other areas. We are currently in a struggle between various countries, the European Union, America, about who will prevail in the search for talent, “Mr Kokkinidis underlined.
“We have been a Brain Regain policy for years that brings real results. It is obviously linked to the country’s overall progress, because I believe that if one or someone has no overall confidence in the country, they will hardly leave a good position abroad to return to our homeland. Therefore, the fact that our country is now a neat country, which gives visibility of hope for the immediate and long -term future, has an important role to play in our quest to bring people from abroad. And you are perfectly fair, it is now a worldwide battle for this talent. I always say that for us our dispersion is an important comparative advantage, “the prime minister replied.
“We are doing actions, the Ministry of Labor is taking brain regain actions abroad, where it” marries “companies with Greeks abroad and the response is truly impressive. I wish we could do something similar and more specialized in the field of health and health sciences, because we have a very important human resources that are distinguished abroad, “Kyriakos Mitsotakis added, and reminded the significant tax incentives, 50% of taxes, 50% of taxes.
