Many islands do not have fully manned hospital units, the ND MEP stresses – the question in the Commission
Direct funding for the supply of sea EKABIn order to facilitate the transfer of patients from island areas that do not have hospital units in islands with hospitals, the ND MEP calls for a question to the European Commission, George.
In his question, the MEP stresses: Greece is the first country of the European Union with a huge coastline, exceeding 14,000 kilometers. In Greece there are about 6,000 islands, small islands and islands.
Of all these islands, 227 are habitable with their population ranging from 100 to 500 inhabitants. Many of these islands do not have fully manned hospital units.
In extraordinary cases, the emergency transportation of patients to the nearest island with a hospital is facing major problems.
The inhabitants of these small islands will be relieved by the existence of a marine EKAB, as it will transport them immediately and safely to the nearest island with a hospital unit.
Based on this data the European Commission is asked:
1. Do you intend to subsidize Greece’s public bodies to obtain high -speed boats, which will also have the appropriate medical equipment to be used to transport patients from one island to another?
2. Can the European Commission fund Port Authority vessels so that with relevant medical and technological upgrading they can be used to provide medical care to residents living in inaccessible areas?
