Turkey is carefully monitored by Greece’s activities and possible developments in the areas of marine parks in the Ionian Sea and the Aegean, which will be announced by the end of the month, and continues its own work rapidly.

According to information received, Turkey is carefully monitoring developments in whether or not the marine parks announced by Greece will be related to interconnected differences in the Aegean.

In this context, various protected areas are evaluated in all seas, such as the Aegean, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea, as well as other measures to protect the environment, while examining “measures against possible unilateral steps” in Greece.

Soon the announcements for marine parks

Speaking at the UN Conference on the Oceans in Nice, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the maritime parks in the Ionian and the Aegean Sea announced by his country at the ‘Oceans’ conference held in Athens in 2024.

In this context, it is envisaged that these marine parks will ban fishing with deep water and measures against overfishing will be taken.

In a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry on the issue last year, the ministry said: “It is well known that Greece has long been trying to exploit almost every platform in the context of the Aegean problems. Despite the recent alleviation of our relations, it seems that Greece is now exploiting environmental issues. “
