D. Trump replies with additional forces to the Los Angeles demonstrations. “Dictator-President” is called by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
President Donald Trump responds to further demonstrations against his stricter Los Angeles policy. Following a decision, the Ministry of Defense mobilized 2,000 additional troops of the National Guard and 700 Marines of the Armed Forces. In an extremely unusual and controversial decision, the US president has already sent 2,000 National Guards to California, a Democratic stronghold last weekend. With his actions, President Trump breaks, once again, legal and political taboos.
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom openly accuses Trump of “abuse of power”, referring to “disturbed” fantasies of a dictator president. During the commander’s estimation, the US government exceeds red lines.
California has already filed a lawsuit against Trump’s decision to take control of the National Guard without the state’s consent. It should be noted that only in the event of a war or an emergency is the US president is allowed to take control of the National Guard. Newsom also announced that he would bring to justice against the development of the Regular Army forces in California.
Trump: I don’t want ‘civil’
And on Monday, the demonstrations against the stricter Migration Policy of Trump continued in Los Angeles. The mobilizations were at first peaceful, a reporter from the German DPA News Agency. The protesters shouted slogans holding banners against the actions of the Ice Migration Service in the Los Angeles area.
When police began to repel protesters and clean the surrounding streets, individual protesters threw bottles of water, in which police responded with rubber bullets. Officers called on protesters to leave the area and return to their homes. One of the police said: “The situation is chaotic, but under control.”
The mobilization of thousands of extra soldiers contradicts Trump’s statements shortly before the development of 700 marines. At a press conference he did not want to exclude the possibility of developing additional military forces when asked about it. By Monday afternoon (local time) he still reassured that the National Guard contributes to the declining and prevented the worst. In response to a journalist’s question, President Trump assured that he did not want a “civil war”.
