Greece’s stability and credibility as an ally will be marked by the Prime Minister in his intervention at NATO. Kyriakos Mitsotakisstressing that Athens was keeping its commitments on GDP for defense spending, even in the difficult years of the economic crisis, contributing significantly to the capabilities of the alliance in a critical region for regional and international security.
The prime minister is expected to refer to the latest developments in the Middle East, threats to regional and global security and the role that the alliance is called upon to play in the midst of an increasingly uncertain international environment.
Greece will emphasize Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spending about 3% of its GDP on defense as it faces multiple security challenges. Our country is in the hard core of the alliance countries that have exceeded today’s 2% commitment and is in the 5th place of its countries NATO on the rate of defense spending on GDP. The prime minister is still mentioned in the country’s 12 -year equipment program of 25 billion euros.
The main issue of the Summit is to update the DIP – Defense Investment Pledge at 5% of GDP by 2035. This target consists of two pillars: 3.5% of purely military spending and 1.5% of the wider investment and security -related investments, durability.
On Wednesday afternoon, the prime minister will meet with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney.
