The full statement of Foreign Minister G. Gerapetritis on ERT:
The debate in an enlarged form on the Cyprus issue was completed here in New York, under the auspices and initiative of the Secretary General of the United Nations.
Eight years after the Crans Montana and the inaction it brought to the Cyprus issue, it is extremely important that the Cyprus issue is now at the top of the agenda of the Secretary General of the United Nations, who has placed a personal envoy so that he could closely monitor these developments.
We had an extremely productive discussion. We undertook to evaluate the positive measures that had been decided in Geneva a few months ago. It was found that there was completion of these measures in four of the six chapters. And four more have already been added to be able to continue this course for confidence building measures, which will create a suitable ground so that we can move on to a more meaningful discussion than a single Cyprus, which will move within the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The message of a single Cyprus is now necessary in the world, who is experiencing civil strife, experiences wars and is experiencing a great level of intolerance.
It is particularly important for the Greek government, in conjunction with the Republic of Cyprus, to continue this great effort, the national goal of reuniting Megalonissos.
