Los Angeles (Reuters) – Netflix said Thursday that the last season of the South Korean series “Squid Game”, which has become a global phenomenon, had helped allow the group to beat Wall Street in the second quarter.
The ‘streaming giant has also noted its annual profit forecast, a decision, he said, which “mainly reflects the weakening of the dollar”.
The group’s title, up nearly 44% since the start of the year, fell by approximately 1% in post-closet exchange.
Over the April-June period, Netflix’s diluted profit established $ 7.19 per share, exceeding consensus which emerged at $ 7.08 per share according to LSEG data.
The group has revised upward its forecast for annual turnover, in a range between 44.8 billion and $ 45.2 billion, citing the weakening of the dollar as well as “healthy growth” in the number of subscribers “and advertising sales”. The top of the prior range amounted to $ 44.5 billion.
Netflix continued to develop its subscription offers with advertisements to attract consumers wishing to have low -cost service. However, he said in the past that advertising sales would not be a major catalyst for the growth of its revenues this year.
“There are few surprises (in the results), Netflix being now a well -oiled machine,” commented Paolo Pescatore, analyst at PP Foresight. “Advertising remains a key strategic objective, which will take more time to reach”.
Netflix reported a quarterly turnover of $ 11.08 billion, while analysts anticipated an amount of 11.07 billion on Thursday.
The third and final season of “Squid Game” was launched on the platform just days before the end of the second quarter.
This is the most popular series in the world on Netflix among those that are not in English, with 122 million views, according to the group, which no longer communicates its number of quarterly users this year.
Netflix says it anticipates a turnover of $ 11.5 billion for the current quarter, against a consensus of 11.3 billion.
