With spikes against the Mitsotakis government, which charges a “blatant violation of the rule of law”, accompanies his message to the anniversary of the restoration of the Republic by SYRIZA-PS.

In his message, SYRIZA-PS states: “The historical moment of 1974, when the Greek people, through struggles and sacrifices, ended a dark seven-year dictatorship, culminating in the betrayal of Cyprus and inaugurated a new era of democracy, freedom and social contexts. The Transition did not signal a mere political event but a deeply intersection in the history of our country, which paved the way for the consolidation of democratic institutions, the guarantee of social rights and the return of political and social life to the hands of the people.

Greece, despite the obvious difficulties and the gross violation of the rule of law and institutions by the Mitsotakis government, is going through the farthest period of democratic normalcy over previous periods. Today, 51 years later, the rule of law is shaken and the distinction of powers is undermined in practice. This modern dystopia recalls that it requires constant protection, institutional shielding and deepening democracy.

The Transition marked the attempt to build a more fair and more participatory society, and therefore even today 51 years later there are persons and political forces that delay it as a political process.

The Greek people now know that democracy is not only procedures, but a daily struggle for social equality, labor rights, decent living and collective prospect. Democracy means free and uncertain labor and student movement, it means freedom to dream of a better world.

Fifty -one years later, the Transition is not just a historical memory. It is a stockpile and at the same time a call. A call not to allow the degradation of democracy, to resist social inequalities, far -right rhetoric and policies that threaten to turn the country back decades. It is the responsibility of all of us to keep its ideals alive: freedom, democratic participation and social justice. “
