A Memorandum of Understanding between Greece and Hungary was signed in Budapest, in view of the implementation of the new Immigration and Asylum Pact and following the official request filed by the Hungarian authorities to the Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum. The Ministry of Immigration and Asylum was represented by the Secretary General of Migration Policy, Manos Logothetis and asylum Service Commander Marios Kaleas.

According to a statement from the Greek Ministry, the Hungarian authorities are interested in familiarizing their services with the new border procedures, which are expected to be implemented in June 2026 as part of the PACT.

It is recalled that after the Pact’s adoption on May 14, 2024, all Member States must comply and adjust the reception and asylum procedures by adopting a homogenized model of operation as to how to examine international protection demands, the specifications of hosting and the intensification of asylum.

After the Western Balkans, Moldova, Cyprus, Bulgaria and in the past, Great Britain, in turn, Hungary is looking for experiences from the best practices in our country, recognizing the progress that has been in Greece in Greece over the years.

At the same time, the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum published the updated data on unaccompanied minors hosted in structures in Greece.

According to the ministry, the estimated number of unaccompanied minors amounts to 1,722, of which:

92% are boys

8% girls

13% is younger than 15 years

Of these, 1,233 unaccompanied minors (AA) are located in hospitality centers, 184 AA. In semi -autonomous living apartments, 145 A.A. In Emergency Hospitality Structures, 154 A.A. In Reception and Identification Centers & Closed Controlled Structures and 6 AA In controlled asylum seekers.

Regarding hosting capacity: 1,745 seats are in hosting structures (hosting centers/semi -autonomous living apartments) and 156 seats in urgent hospitality structures.
