Greece’s deep concern about the recent attack on Doha, “as it is a violation of Qatar’s territorial sovereignty and is opposed to international law”, expressed an extraordinary UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East after the Israeli blow to Doha.

The meeting was held at the request of Algeria, Pakistan and Somalia.

He stressed that Qatar “has played a crucial and sensitive role in the hospitality and mediation of continuing negotiations between Israel and Hamas, along with the US and Egypt, helping to achieve a truce in January.”

Mrs Balta argued that “as the test in Gaza continues and the hostages remain in Hamas’ captivity, the need for a ceasefire becomes an imperative.”

He also urged all the places to “renew their commitment to the diplomatic process to achieve a truce, paving the way for a political solution to the two states”.

“We firmly believe that Hamas, as a terrorist organization, cannot and should not have any political role in the future governance of Gaza. Similarly, we have categorically condemned the recent terrorist attack on eastern Jerusalem. Both are unacceptable incidents, which emphasize the urgent need to find a political solution. A solution that will bring stability and prosperity, breaking the cycle of violence. In this context, the disturbance of ongoing diplomatic efforts is dangerous, ”said Mrs Balta.

USA: “Trump assured Qatar that this will not happen again”

UN permanent representative, Ambassador Dorothy Shay, told the Qatar Israeli Security Council meeting that “President Trump wants to release all hostages, alive and dead, and end this war now”.

“The president assured Emir and his Prime Minister of Qatar that this would not happen on their ground again,” Mrs Shay said.

Mrs Shay stressed that the end of the war could come “if Hamas is disarmed, releases hostages and surrendered”, stressing that “at the moment, Hamas continues to threaten Israel’s security and deliberately extend the agony.”

At the same time, he referred to Trump – Netanyahu communication, stressing that “Prime Minister Netanyahu reiterated to President Trump his desire for peace when the two men spoke yesterday.”

Concluding, the American ambassador noted that “despite the unpleasant nature of this incident, President Trump believes he could be an opportunity for peace.”
