In an agreement on the start of the EEZ delineation process between Greece and Libya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritisand the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan National Unity Government, Taher Salem Al Baour.
The meeting was followed by Mr. Gerapetritis’ visit to the Tripolion July 15, during which the deepening of bilateral relations was agreed.
During the meeting, the two ministers declared the start of the procedure for its demarcation Economic zone Between Greece and Libya. In this context, the first meeting of the Technical Committees was held. The next meeting was agreed to take place in Tripoli.
The issues of the agenda were also to enhance cooperation in the field of immigration. At this point, the Foreign Minister expressed Greece’s readiness to continue the provision of Libyan Coast Guard training.
The two ministers exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations in the fields of economy, energy, transport and construction.
They also expressed their readiness to launch a direct airline between Athens and Tripoli and agreed to the Greek business mission in Tripoli in autumn.
Mr Gerapetritis emphasized the need for respect for international law, including international sea law and reiterated the Greek and European position on the invalid and non -existent Turkish Memorandum.
Finally, he referred to the substantive contribution of Greece, as a Member State of the European Union and an elected member of the United Nations Security Council, to the efforts to achieve a political solution, with a view to unity, development and stability in Libya.
