The Municipality of Piraeus successfully held the 5th Recycling Festival at Korai Square, with interest focusing on the importance of recycling and environmental protection. The event, which has been established as an institution, attracted a multitude of children, parents and teachers, turning the square into an interactive “Recycling Village” full of colors, smiles and children’s voices. The children enthusiastically participated in educational and recreational activities, such as creative workshops, themes, games, as well as experiential activities such as “Little Gardeners”, VR Class and Survivor Recycling. The event also included face painting, inflatables, music and many more surprises, maintaining the interest of visitors undiminished. This year’s celebration was presented for the second consecutive year by Dimitris Ungarezos, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the event. During the event awards were held awards of pupils and schools who were distinguished in the 2024-2025 recycling champion “Mrs. Purela’s shop”an initiative of the Municipality of Piraeus in collaboration with the author Lia Lappa. Special moments of the event were the honorary awards at Paralympic Nikos Papangelis for his contribution to sports and society, as well as to 11 -year -old Yiannis Korologos, who with his courage and soul power is an example of optimism and inspiration. Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis, in a statement, stressed that the 5th recycling celebration is a favorite institution with a strong social and educational footprint, while underlining the importance of environmental awareness from an early age. The responsible Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness and Recycling Panagiotis Reppas pointed out the constant effort of the Municipality to strengthen recycling and environmental consciousness, thanking those who contributed to the success of the event.

Support from sponsors to reinforce recycling

The 5th Recycling Festival was implemented with the support of significant sponsors. The Hellenic Recycling Company offered 45 tablets to students who were distinguished in the creative writing competition, as well as the amusement park recycling. Than SA took over students’ transport and offered gifts of drawing to the recycled participants. The Hellenic Society of Environmental Systems Helesi offered two € 500 gift vouchers each, while Recycom – ARPIS EYGELOS AND SIA OE and Mainsys OE offered 400 and 300 euro gift vouchers respectively.
