“The Prime Minister essentially claims that the lack of trust in the institutions is a figment of the citizens’ imagination or a result of the statements of the former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis.”
This is what Kostas Tsoukalas, PASOK-Movement for Change, comments on the Prime Minister’s statements.
“The Prime Minister, whose seven-year rule has been identified with the undermining of the prestige of institutions and the collapse of the rule of law, if he is looking for culprits for the crisis of confidence, let him look in the mirror.
He used his parliamentary majority to prevent the Judiciary from investigating any responsibilities of his ministers.
Character assassinations against heads of independent authorities by his ministers, which he never condoned.
He swore that he would shed “light” on the scandal of illegal surveillance and organized a complete cover-up, even allowing the EYP, which had come under his office, not to implement a decision of the Council of Ministers.
As leader of the official opposition he was committed to deep cuts to strengthen the separation of powers and did exactly the opposite.
Unless today Kyriakos Mitsotakis in fact claims that the lack of trust in the institutions is a figment of the citizens’ imagination or the result of the statements of the former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis. It would be funny if it weren’t tragic.”
