Any gathering that goes beyond the purpose for which the monument is there will not be permitted by EL.AS.“, the government representative emphasized during today’s (27/10) briefing for political editors, Pavlos Marinakis.

In particular, answering a question about when the provisions of the amendment apply to the Unknown Soldierthe government spokesman said:

“It is valid that it has been voted and everything that the amendment mentions, has been published and is in effect. EL.AS in the protection part it has a specific plan which we will see unfold. The law will be applied, we have confidence in the Greek Police. Any gathering that goes beyond the purpose for which the monument is there will not be permitted by EL.AS. We will see this in the coming days, immediately after the passing of this particular amendment”.

In a question about the attack he received in Heraklion, Mr Makis Voridis and if one of those who attack politicians will be arrested, Mr. Marinakis noted:

“All attacks are reprehensible, but think what they have in mind to attack a man who is with his family. The place of these people is in a cell. The Police have shown success in much more difficult cases and I am sure that in this case too we will have arrests very soon. These people are criminals and should be put in jail quickly.”

“As for the political dimension of the issue, we live in the country where a certain political space is a space of absolute political hypocrisy. You are vulgar when you only condemn violence that benefits you. A large part of the political system wants us to experience the days of the division of the upper and lower square.”
