Mitsotakis from Nikaia: “On May 1, the minimum wage will increase significantly”

by

“On May 1, as I have promised, it will increase significantly the minimum wage“because the growth dividend should be fairly distributed not only to companies, but also to employees,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his speech at the New Democracy pre-conference debate in Nice on social policy and equality.

Mr. Mitsotakis added that the second increase in the minimum wage within the current year will take into account on the one hand the competitiveness of companies, but also inflation, which, as he said, erodes the disposable income.

The Prime Minister noted that the most effective social policy is to reduce unemployment and create new, good jobs, recalling that in the midst of a very difficult economic and political environment the ND government managed to reduce unemployment to 12.8% from 17.2%, who received it in July 2019. “I will not be satisfied until this percentage falls below the European average,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.

Referring to the SYRIZA conference Kyriakos Mitsotakis characteristically stressed: “I wish they held a Congress every year to remind us of what we escaped, an unbearable mixture of toxicity, vulgarity, populism and tensions that is not appropriate for an official opposition party.”

Finally, Mr. Mitsotakis posed another pre-election dilemma: “if we achieved so much in the midst of a pandemic, an invasion of Evros and an acute economic crisis, imagine what we will achieve in 8 years”.
