“A development cosmogony is taking place in Alexandroupolis”stressed the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his speech at the inauguration of the Waste Treatment Unit, referring to the event for the official start of its implementation new liquefied natural gas terminal in the offshore area of ​​Alexandroupolis, which will take place at noon with the participation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel and the leaders of Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and Serbia.

“The inauguration of the Waste Treatment Plant (WMU) is proof that our commitments are being fulfilled, our government prefers the projects,” the prime minister noted.

Mr. Mitsotakis pointed out that in the summer of 2019, when his government took over, 3 MEAs were operating throughout Greece and another 5 were under construction with uncertain funding. Currently, 6 MEAs are operating, 11 are under construction, 7 are under contract and another 12 are in the tender process.

The Prime Minister stressed that leaps will need to be made to bury only 10% of municipal waste by 2030 and noted that successful waste management is everyone’s business: central government, local government, civil society and especially young people. .

MEA Alexandroupolis will receive 45,000 tons of waste from four municipalities in the prefecture of Rodopi and two municipalities in the prefecture of Evros and will reduce their volume by 60%, while it will employ 40 employees.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, the Deputy Minister of Macedonia-Thrace, Stavros Kalafatis and the Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis Anthimos.
